This steep waterfront site on a lake south of Asheville is a family dream. The existing lakefront amenities (diving cliff, adjacent flat rock platform for climbing out, and a level area for the firepit gatherings), and the fact that the family has three young children, dictated that the home be placed as close as possible to the water's edge. Given that the car court is best located just off the old logging road, up above, the public sequence of arrival starts at the foyer adjacent to the parking access and via a wide stairway draws the visitor diagonally (with extensive views of the lake) down toward the lower living room/ dining room and kitchen. A series of outdoor terraces and steps further enhances the final arrival at the lake's edge - the focus of everyday life for the owners.
The exterior materials colors will be natural and neutral to compliment the wooded site, and will lessen the structures perception on the site. Green building systems will be implemented.
